MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT |
|||

The Mathematics Department envisions all pupils to become
Creative, Innovative, Disciplined and Independent Thinkers and Problem-Solvers in Mathematics at the end of their primary education in Rulang. The department believes in laying the foundation right, offering a curriculum with both depth and breadth, leading pupils to achieve and develop the disposition of wanting to achieve to the best of their abilities. |
Mathematics is a discipline that is connected to real life. It is crucial that our pupils attain the skills and processes of this discipline during their developmental years. It is with this objective in mind that the department streamlines its teaching and learning approaches into a framework known as SIGMA (Strategies In Growing Mathematical Ability). SIGMA is based on the MOE Mathematics Framework and aims to reach out to pupils of varying abilities and thereby maximising pupils’ potential in the area of Mathematics. |
One of the differentiated, exploratory and experiential packages
under SIGMA is GENIUS (iLRT) (I learn at Rulang Trail), our
newly conceptualised learning package. The unique feature of
this package will be that every teacher can create his own trails
that meet the learning needs of his pupils using the available
teaching and learning as well as physical resources in the school.
In the Eureka and MARVEL learning packages, our pupils solve
hands-on problems individually, in pairs or in groups using games
and manipulatives. The Maths department is currently working
on assessment rubrics for both the Eureka Mathematics and the
MARVEL learning packages. With the new assessment rubrics,
pupils using these packages are expected to grade themselves on
their problem-solving ability, in so doing, take ownership of their
own learning. Hence, assessment is practised as learning and
for learning. |
